Java Tutorials Learning Paths

Here, we’ll share all of the guides and resources we’ve made to help make the course creation process as clear and easy as possible. This is not your grandfather’s Java ME.   Deep dive and demonstration on the new Java Embedded support for ARM processors. See end-to-end coding on devices, discuss coding practices for building performant applications, and learn how to kick-start your own crowd-sourced device project.

  • Java is an object-oriented, class-based, concurrent, secured and general-purpose computer-programming language.
  • Please note that in this example and all the others, the leading $ is there to show you that you need to type this command or paste it in a prompt.
  • If the program works now, you’ll have to change your CLASSPATH variable in the same manner as the PATH variable above.
  • If you have any questions or would like to share your feedback, feel free to leave a comment below or contact us at
  • You need to be very cautious while setting up these two variables, because a single mistake like an added white space of a missing semicolon will result in failure.
  • To develop or run Java applications, you need to download and install the Java SE Development Kit.

Concurrency explains how to write applications that perform multiple tasks simultaneously. The Java platform is designed from the ground up to support concurrent programming, with Java SE Lessons basic concurrency support in the Java programming language and the Java class libraries. Since version 5.0, the Java platform has also included high-level concurrency APIs.

Rich Client Applications

Basic I/O covers the Java platform classes used for basic input and output. It focuses primarily on I/O Streams, a powerful concept that greatly simplifies I/O operations. The lesson also looks at Serialization, which lets a program write whole objects out to streams and read them back again. Then the lesson looks at some file system operations, including random access files. Finally, it touches briefly on the advanced features of the New I/O API. Java 8 is probably the most anticipated version of Java ever with a number of major innovations.

  • Java Platform, Standard Edition (Java SE) helps you develop and deploy Java applications on desktops and servers.
  • Remember, the argument is the name of the class that you want to use, not the filename.
  • Compiling some code may fail; your code has to be correct for the compiler to produce an executable version of it.
  • Java is a high level, robust, object-oriented and secure programming language.

Are you a student trying to learn the Java language or a
professional seeking to expand your skill set? If you are feeling a
bit overwhelmed by the breadth of the Java platform, here are a few
suggested learning paths to help you get the most from your Java
learning experience. Step 4.) After complete installation, you need to set up the environment variables. To learn Java, you must have the basic knowledge of C/C++ programming language. If you still have problems, you might have to change your CLASSPATH environment variable. To see if this is necessary, try clobbering the classpath with the following command.

Future of Java SE

Starting with Java SE 11, you can run a Java application without going through the compilation step, as long as the program is written in a single file. There is technical code in this class that may not be very clear to you. Do not worry; all you need to do is to compile it following the steps described in the previous section. So far your class is empty; there is no executable code in it. If you were able to compile it properly then you can advance to the next step and execute some code. Once you have properly set up your JDK; the JAVA_HOME variable and the PATH variable, you are ready to compile your first class.

Step 6.) Click on Environment Variables, go to system variables, and double click on Path. This tutorial supplements all explanations with clarifying examples. We recommend reading this tutorial, in the sequence listed in the left menu.

Do not worry, this page gives you the code you are going to compile. All you need to do is copy it and paste it in your text editor. I understand that you are eager to type some code in your editor and run it to see your first Java application in action! Do not worry, your expectation will be fulfilled by the end of this tutorial. But before we move on, I would like to do through several elements that you need to know to fully understand what you are doing.
